The Celebration continues...

This song says most of what I feel about our 25 years of marriage and family....Oh, the adventure...

...If I gave you my hand would you take it
And make me the happiest man in the world
If I told you my heart couldn't beat one more minute without you, girl
Would you accompany me to the edge of the sea
Help me tie up the ends of a dream
I gotta know, would you go with me
I love you so, so would you go with me...

  1. 25 years is a long time, but it goes by so quickly doesn't it?

25 years ago, when you were starting your married life, Cabbage Patch Kids were released. Compact discs and camcorders were also released and the first cell phones were tested in Chicago. Sally Ride became the first woman in space, while the final episode of M*A*S*H aired. Kids started walking down the streets carrying boom boxes a quarter of a century ago. Ocean Spray introduced the first juice boxes; the most popular baby names were Michael and Jennifer, and feathered hair and off-shoulder tops were the rave.

The Marine Barracks in Beirut were bombed and the US invaded Grenada twenty five years ago. President Reagan, the most popular President ever (in my book) led the country. The federal debt was only $1.3 trillion and the average household income was $20,885 (not much has changed in that dept). Much to Shelley's chagrin, Washington defeated Miami in the Super Bowl. But that was also the year that NC State defeated Houston to win the NCAA basketball championship. The Color Purple won the Pulizter Prize for Fiction, Lech Walesa won the Nobel Prize in Peace, and 'Ghandi' won the Oscar for Best Picture. "Scarface" marked the beginning of idolizing the bad guy in movies. "Always On My Mind" was the song of the year; but this was the year that Karen Carpenter passed away from anorexia. Miss America was Debra Maffett from California.

A lot has happened in the past quarter century, some good - like the births of your daughters, and some not so good, such as being exiled by God to Granville County. You've handled it all in your own uniquely Jimmy's way; and Shelley has been your best Debra along the journey - just as it should be. Congratulations on the first 25 years. May God grant you at least another 25, unless Jesus decides it's time for His wedding.
