Melissa's Adventure Begins!

I drove to Charlotte yesterday to visit Melissa and her mother Nancy. As I entered her room I found a young lady that was at peace and had a story to tell. From last Thursday morning, until sometime this past Sunday Melissa was moving from 24hour truck stop to truck stop. She communicated her appreciation for the truckers who helped her even in her confused state. They were kind, and attempted to help as best they could. I want to send a big shout-out all the men and woman out here that drive the big rigs...Thanks for keeping America rolling. If you happen to be one of those great Americans who stopped and attempted to help my niece along her "adventure", may God's blessings and peace be on your life and may He return to you the safety and care you showed to Melissa.

I visited with Melissa and Nancy about two hours and then they were gone. Yes, the doctor in Charlotte along with friends of Melissa's parents have found a treatment facility for her in Marietta! She will be with professionals to help her become healthy and strong and will be close to family.

I hope and pray you will continue to pray for Melissa and her family. She is safe, but she has lots of hard work ahead and family has much support to provide.

Melissa has been found! Updated 8/13

A doctor called Melissa's mother Nancy about one hour ago. Melissa was found wandering in a parking lot and a concerned citizen took her to a hospital in Charlotte, NC. She is physically fine and under the care of the hospital. Her mother is driving from Atlanta to Charlotte even as this message goes out.

Our entire family wants to thank all of you for your prayers and support during the last few days. We are thankful for God's mercy!

A note from Melissa: 8/13 9:30pm
Thanks to all who prayed and worried for me. I cannot believe how many care. Can it ever be said that you were loved enough? Not yet, but I sure do feel it more than ever. I am here. I am finding good help. And now I am blessed that you all were here looking, loving and thinking of me. God Bless.

A note from Melissa's Mother: 8/13

What a blessing 2 see Melissa safe and well cared for in the hospital. I explained to her there are so many people who prayed and cared about her - it made her smile. I'm not sure she believed me . . . but tomorrow I will show her the list of the people who have been thinking of her.

The small amount of info she could remember from the last ten days - it's amazing she survived.

Thank you for all your prayers and hopefully one day you'll hear the story from Melissa.

The biggest gift she could receive from you now is a Post. So, show your support by writing a message to her on this wall.

I spoke with Melissa on the phone this afternoon. She is a bit confused and tired, but she is safe and has a great doctor and staff that are taking good care of her.

I will keep these posts up for a few days. I am sure that the family will want to thank a few folks here in a public way.

Blessings2allofu,
Jimmy

WE HAVE SO MUCH TO BE THANKFUL FOR THIS EVENING!

Since her disappearance last Thursday much has happened. Hundreds of emails with her vital information have been sent around the country. Hundreds of folks have come by the blog and read her story. Almost two hundred people have joined a Facebook group to help. Her parents and family in Georgia are working with authorities to move the investigation forward, while her family in North Carolina handle pushing information out from their computer terminals.

Law Enforcement in three states are working leads to find her, while hundreds of folks have her photos, posters and general information and are blanketing this region.

We ask for pray for Melissa, her family and those involved in the investigation.

Here is a newspaper article that appeared in a newspaper on Saturday.

A mother speaks:

Dear friends,
The red tape and privacy laws are making this search very difficult. I have spent 6 hours today just getting phone records to a phone in our name and we pay for. The bank is another hurdle. My brain is very easily distracted and has great difficulty focusing. My friend Diana has had to keep me on track. This is just to give you all a glimpse of what we are going through. Louis thinks a little more clearly and has to work. Your love and prayers are sustaining us, please keep it up. Out computers at home have gone on the blink so we are unable to keep up on correspondence.

There are no leads yet.

Melissa is Missing!

My 31 year old niece suffers from mental illness. She is in the care of my brother and sister-in-law in Marietta, GA. Earlier this week, she took my SIL's car for a drive to a local park. She never returned! My brother was able to communicate with her once via cell phone. After that conversation a local deputy in Greer, SC called my family and said he had seen her, but had no legal right to hold her. My brother Louis and SIL Nancy immediately drove to SC. Yesterday afternoon, Nancy's car was found on the side of the road outside Gaffney, SC out of gas. There was no sign of Melissa. They then contacted the local police and re-filed a missing persons report. As of this morning, there is no sign of her in the Gaffney, SC area. SHE HAS VANISHED.

Melissa is extremely fearful, paranoid, verbally aggressive and prone to creating alter egos and personalities.

Melissa is a Caucasian female with short brown hair weighing approximately 120lbs and is 5'8" feet tall.

I have contacted you all for several purpose:
  • Pray for Melissa and the Marietta, Ga Chalmers family, my parenst and related people.
  • If you are in the Greer or Gaffney SC area, please keep you eye out for her. If she is in public, she WILL eventually have a breakdown.
  • If you have any contacts in the media that may be able to help with national exposure, it would be greatly appreciated.
  • If you have any ideas to help get information out, that would help.

If you have any information please post in comments or call me at 919.690.0779
If press or law enforcement need information, please have them call my brother Louis at 404.861.3959
