What makes God belly laugh?

Shelley, Katy, Joy, Russ and I went to see the film Evan Almighty last night. We enjoyed the film and the time with each other. Afterwards we were going to the local Sonic for supper...no such luck, it has closed. A pizza buffet was the food we filled our bellies with, it was good. Speaking of bellies, if you have seen the film, what makes God belly laugh? If you have not seen it...go.

  1. God laughs at the fact that we think our plans are more important than his. ;-) Was there another place?

I didn't go to the film expecting any theological insights, but came away pondering two things:
1- God calls us out of our comfort zones. It can be very unpleasant, and even seem "unfair." But once we give in to God's leading, he gives us peace.
2- It struck me that God didn't explain his plans to Evan or explain to Evan's wife that God's call was the reason Evan was doing all this. God doesn't explain himself. Evan, and his wife in a different way, had to learn to walk by faith. More pushing out of the comfort zone.

I was also pleasantly surprised at the positive portrayal of family in the film.

Overall, much better than I expected.

  2. Ding, ding, ding...Carrie has won the prize. God belly laughs at your plans.

On theme we came away with is how "Odd" you become when God invades your life. Evan went from sorta-normal to totally wacked. God uses the oddness of who we are and who He is making us to be.
